Navigating Epilepsy: The Road Ahead

The American Epilepsy Society holds its annual meeting: moving epilepsy treatment forward and up

picture-Flag-California2-164x164Did you know that every year the American Epilepsy Society holds a massive conference on epilepsy that brings together epilepsy specialists from all over the world to present the most updated findings about epilepsy diagnosis in children and adults, epilepsy treatment, genetics, devices to diagnose and promote safety in epilepsy, the psychology of epilepsy, and more. The conference lasts several days and is really an impressive and enriching event for anyone who works in epilepsy.
Last year, the Society also set aside a large section in the Expo Hall for epilepsy not-for-profits. There were wonderful resources available for all to learn about. Just a few of the booths that were actively sharing resources and information with US and international doctors were the Lennox Gastaut Foundation, Dravet.org, the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, Seizure Tracker, and many more.
This year’s conference will be in San Diego, California. Many of our Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group doctors will be sharing these research findings with other doctors.
• AMBULATORY EEG MONITORING WITH VIDEO IN ADULTS and CHILDREN: Clinical Utility
• EFFICACY OF VIDEO-EEG IN THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF ALTERED MENTAL STATUS IN THE ELDERLY POPULATION
• OUTCOME OF STATUS EPILEPTICUS IN PATIENTS TREATED WITH LACOSAMIDE
• COMPARISON OF EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS IN PATIENTS WITH PSYCHOGENIC NON-EPILEPTIC SEIZURES (PNES) AND TEMPORAL LOBE EPILEPSY (TLE) AFTER CONTROLLING FOR MALINGERING
• THE EXPERIENCE OF ANGER IN PATIENTS WITH EPILEPTIC SEIZURES: THE STATE-TRAIT ANGER EXPRESSION INVENTORY-2
• GENDER, SUBJECTIVE MEMORY, AND OBJECTIVE MEMORY AMONG PATIENTS WITH EPILEPSY
• DEPRESSION AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN HISPANIC IMMIGRANTS AND US BORN EPILEPSY PATIENTS

And our staff from Epilepsy Life Links will be at our booth as they have been for several years sharing as many epilepsy resources as we can with doctors from the US and abroad. There are several ideas that we hope will be useful in other states and countries as well as a number of on-line resources.
