Navigating Epilepsy: The Road Ahead

New book on epilepsy for patients: What You Need to Know if Epilepsy Has Touched Your Life: A Guide in Plain English fulfills two major goals at once: educates and raises funds for epilepsy

epi-book-cover-150x150For the past two years, Dr. Marcelo Lancman, Medical Director of the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group and board certified epileptologist with over 20 years of experience has been writing a book that communicates his and his team’s patient-centered approach to life with epilepsy.
This book’s appearance on the scene is made even more exciting by the fact that Dr. Marcelo Lancman is donating all profits of the book back to epilepsy research and patient resources. In this way it helps us in our goal of making huge strides against epilepsy by hitting two targets at once: spreading much needed and up-to-date education about epilepsy in easy-to-understand format and sending all profits back to support epilepsy.
“What You Need to Know if Epilepsy Has Touched Your Life: A Guide in Plain English” offers easily understandable up-to-date medical information on a variety of topics from diagnosis to treatment of epilepsy. The goal is that the reader becomes an informed patient who will be an active participant in her/his treatment. “What You Need to Know if Epilepsy Has Touched Your Life” offers step-by-step instructions for preparing for doctors’ visits, explains the many tests and treatments that are available, as well as examining living with epilepsy and being a parent, having a job and how to achieve a full life.
This book is part of the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group’s campaign to raise epilepsy and seizure awareness and provides education in understandable language. With almost 3 million people in the U.S. having some form of epilepsy, and one in ten adults likely to experience a seizure during their life, it is tremendously important that as many people as possible are well informed about epilepsy facts. Epilepsy medicine is a rapidly growing field that can be hard to keep up with from a patient’s perspective. Presently, there are more than 20 available anti-epilepsy medications, as well as electronic treatment devices, diet therapies, and new state-of-the art diagnostic tools.
What You Need to Know if Epilepsy Has Touched Your Life: A Guide in Plain English is meant for patients, family members and health professionals alike.
