Navigating Epilepsy: The Road Ahead

We did it! Our team raised over $25,000 for the American Epilepsy Society in the 2013 National Epilepsy Walk

epilepsy-walk-2013-4-150x150On April 20, 2013, our team, Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group (NEREG,) walked to raise funds for the American Epilepsy Society (AES) because we knew that 100% of the funds raised for AES go to support epilepsy research and education of epilepsy doctors and specialists. The American Epilepsy Society (AES) is one of the oldest neurological professional organizations in the USA. Its mission is to promote education for professionals dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of epilepsy.
This year, our 48 team members that included adult and child patients, sons, daughters, wives, husbands, moms, dads, epileptologists, psychologists, social workers, research assistants, and office support staff gave it their all and broke many records and expectations on April 20!
The team’s initial goal was $5000. However, by the day of the walk, the team had raised a whopping $26,074.77! This would not have been possible without 4 months of intense teamwork (patients knitting purple scarves for raffling and raising epilepsy awareness, others selling these raffle tickets; donation buckets placed in most of our waiting rooms; a mom who sold t-shirts, another mom who held fundraising events at her spa; all types of social media (including this one) and substantial donations from the NEREG doctors and staff). Efforts were so impressive that on the last week, the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group doctors announced they would match the amount raised to support the incredible efforts made during those four months.
Last week we got more excellent news: AES broke its fundraising goals for this year and went well past what it had raised in 2012. It is wonderful to know that we were part of that. We were then even more thrilled to hear that we are the proud recipients of the 2013 Yale Cup for being the biggest fundraisers for AES this year! The cup is now being engraved with our team name and will be arriving to our New York City office very soon. It will then tour our New York and New Jersey offices so all patients and staff can enjoy seeing it up close.
I am so proud of my awesome team! And look forward to seeing them all again next year to hopefully outdo ourselves and keep the Yale cup in New York and New Jersey!
