Navigating Epilepsy: The Road Ahead

Qué Necesitas saber si la Epilepsia ha Tocado tu Vida was just published in Spanish (Español) in response to the needs of the Spanish-speaking epilepsy community

bookReading and understanding a book about epilepsy in English can be tough.  Imagine trying to read about epilepsy in English when you don’t really know English all that well.  Dr. Lancman, medical director of the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group and epileptologist of 20+ years) who is himself also of Hispanic heritage (Argentina) decided to tackle the project of writing Qué Necesitas saber si la Epilepsia ha Tocado tu Vida in response to the many requests he received from his Hispanic patients at the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group and requests that came in through our Facebook page (Epilepsia en Latino America).  He decided to translate What You Need To Know if Epilepsy Has Touched Your Life: A Guide in Plain English and also added specific Spanish-language (Latin American) resources.  It took nearly a year, but the effort was worth it.

Just as he and his co-authors did with the English version (What You Neeed to Know if Epilepsy Has Touched Your Life), all on-line profits of the book are being donated to epilepsy patient resources through the Epilepsy Free Foundation that sponsors college and summer camp scholarships for persons with epilepsy.

Qué Necesitas saber si la Epilepsia ha Tocado tu Vida provides Spanish-speaking Latinos living in the US and beyond with an outstanding resource filled with current and accurate information about epilepsy in a language they understand.  The goal is to create informed patients who will be active participants in their treatment.  Many myths and misunderstandings about epilepsy are challenged by the contents of this book.  The book offers step-by-step instructions for preparing for doctors’ visits, explains the many tests and treatments that are available, as well as examining living with epilepsy and being a parent, having a job and how to achieve a full life.

The publication date coincides with National Epilepsy Month in the US!
